Involvement: 1-1 Prayer
By ronrobison on Nov 22, 2011 in Featured, Involvement, Prayer
Corporate prayers are flowing in churches, small groups, sunday schools and dinner tables everywhere. There is often an art to an inspirational public prayer, especially those that pray in king james version prayers. It’s all about the delivery and the ability to wax on eloquently. Those that can, do it frequently and those that feel they can’t are intimidated to think they are not spiritual enough. While this certainly is not the intention of public prayer, it is often the result.
So how do I actively become involved in prayer for others? Do I relegate myself to an isolated prayer closet? Personal prayer time is definitely and essential part of the disciple’s life. But where does true discipleship in prayer happen? Do I take a class? Do I become bold enough just to pray in the group if the opportunity ever arises? After all we know who is going to pray when the leader opens the prayer time up for everyone.
Becoming involved in a good small group of no more than 12-15 people is essential in being discipled in this area. But even more important is that we pray 1-1, both giving and getting prayer. This has been the most significant discipleship advance in my journey over the past 1-2 years. It forces me to take ownership of my prayer life and truly focus on the needs of others. Do you practice 1-1 prayer on a regular basis? What are some ways this will help you as a disciple?
These are the musings of a disciple of Christ simply trying to make sense of life by intentionally communicating with God. The intent is to give you points to ponder in 250 words or less, not closed ended teachings. React, interact and communicate with me and others as we live life intentionally and appreciate how God made each of us unique.
